UK-Wide Age Verification Is Now Standard
As of July 25, 2025, the UK’s Online Safety Act requires platforms with user-generated content—such as Reddit, Spotify, Discord, Bluesky, X (formerly Twitter), Xbox, and others to verify the age of UK-based users before granting access to certain types of content.
This means that age-verification checks are now a standard practice across all services, not just for Chitchat.gg
What changes
At Chitchat.gg, our mission is to foster a vibrant, inclusive, and safe online community where users can connect and engage freely. Ensuring user safety while respecting privacy is at the core of our values.
To align with global efforts to enhance online safety, we’re excited to announce our integration of GoCam's age assuring technology to enhance online safety, especially for our UK community, in compliance with the UK’s Online Safety Act.
How Does It Work?
To create a safer digital environment, Chitchat.gg is using an advanced age verification system designed to balance security, privacy, and user experience. Starting from now, UK users will be prompted to verify their age using facial age estimation technology or ID document verification. These methods are designed to be user-friendly while adhering to strict privacy standards, ensuring personal data is protected.
Users under 18 or those who choose not to verify will not be able to access Chitchat, in accordance with UK safety regulations.
- UK Users Only: Currently, age assurance is required only for users accessing Chitchat.gg from the UK.
- Quick & Easy: When prompted, users can complete a check in under 2 minutes.
- One-Time Process: Verified users can continue using Chitchat.gg as usual.
- Privacy First: We do not receive or retain any biometric data. Chitchat only receives a “pass/fail” result.
What UK Users Can Expect
UK users will see a notification guiding them through the age verification process. These will provide clear instructions on how to complete the verification.

As usual, users can report content through flows:
A Safer Space for All
These changes reflect a broader shift across the UK toward increased online safety standards. By introducing age verification, we aim to meet regulatory requirements while continuing to prioritize safety while keeping meaningful connection at the heart of everything we do.
